phylum porifera
What is a Sponge, Sierra?
Well, the scientific name is Phylum Porifera!
Now I don’t want to rewind back to history,
And talk about the mystery of Radial Symmetry,
That conversation was bittersweet.
Phylum Porifera is divided by Radial Symmetry!
“Sierra, I want to hear more!”
Well there, their habitat is on the marine floor.
They’re the only member of subkingdom Prozoa alive today.
So, you better pray that they don’t go away.
They have the simplest frame in this day and age,
No nerves, no organs, no brain!
“Sierra, I want you to teach me well,
I’m still confused and I’m sure it’s hard to tell!”
Phylum Porifera has four kinds of cells!
The Porocyte, it draws water in,
The Epidermis is the outer layer of skin.
Collar cells, control water flow and captures food,
Amoebocytes carries food from collar cells to other cells
With no attitude!
Water enters through the pores,
And exits out through the osculum.
Like when you enter through a door,
and walk in all masculine!
“How do sponges reproduce sexually?”
Well, let me teach you the reality
Collar cells or Amoebocytes undergo meiosis
to make egg or sperm, it’s not bogus!
Sponges can reproduce asexually, no flirtation,
By budding or gemmule formation!
Hopefully you learned just a bit about Phylum Porifera,
So now you can teach Clara!
